Reavie leads Stricker, Marino by two
SILVIS, Illinois - Chez Reavie flirted with the magical 59 on Friday during the second round of the John Deere Classic, but settled for a 9 under 62 to get to 14 under 128 overall and has a two-stroke lead over Steve Marino and two-time defending champion Steve Stricker.Reavie, who matched his low score set earlier this year at Colonial where he finished tied for fifth.
"I birdied the 7th hole, the par-3, and that's when I thought, you know, I make two more birdies, I shoot 59," Reavie said. "And then I hit it up there to about eight, ten feet on the 8th hole and hit a great putt and lipped out. It was a hard lip-out. And then I kind of took a deep breath and I was like, okay, now it's not really in the cards. But yeah, I thought about it and I was laughing about it and joking about it."
Stricker is trying to become just the ninth different player to win a PGA Tour event three straight years since World War II. His 64 on Friday gave him a chance with 36 holes to play.
Marino is still seeking his first win on tour and has been putting himself in position, seemingly on a weekly basis. He feels a win could come at any time.
"I think that on any given week if I play well, that I'm going to have a chance to win on Sunday," Marino said after his second-round 66. "So yeah, I think that I'm definitely playing well enough to do it, and there's no reason why I can't see myself doing it. "
