Second-round notebook – FBR Open
* Charley Hoffman is playing in the 101st event of his PGA Tour career and has never led at the end of the first, second, third or fourth rounds. It appeared Hoffman was going to lead after the second round until he bogeyed his final two holes. His only Tour win came at the 2007 Bob Hope Chrysler Classic which is a five-round event. Hoffman was four strokes back heading into the final round of the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic.* Due to darkness, play was stopped at 6:10 p.m. Three players did not complete round-two. Play to finish the second-round will resume at 8:00 a.m. Saturday morning. There are currently 71 players at even-par 142. The cut will come Saturday morning at the completion of the second-round.
* At 8:00 a.m. on Friday, nine players returned to the course to complete the first-round and finished at 8:39 a.m. The second-round started as scheduled at 7:40 a.m.
* In 395 rounds as a professional, Nick Watney has now led or held a share of the lead eight times. In his only win on Tour at the 2007 Zurich Classic of New Orleans, Watney led after 54 holes and maintained his lead to beat Ken Duke by three strokes.
* Nick Watney tied his third-best 36-hole score Friday, with rounds of 70-63 for a total of 133. He shot his second 63 of the 2009 season Friday and the third of his career. Watney shot 63 in the fourth round of the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic last week and in 2008 at the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. His round Friday included a pair of eagles on No. 13 and No. 15.
* Nick Watney is making his fifth appearance in the FBR Open. His best finish at the event is a T32 in 2007. Before his second-round 63 Friday, his previous-best round at the FBR Open was a 66 in 2008.
* Kenny Perry, playing in his 22nd straight FBR Open, shot a Tournament personal-best round of eight-under 63 in the second round. Perry’s previous best at the FBR Open was a 64 in 2002, which was also the year of his best finish (T2). Perry missed the cut at his first FBR Open in 1988 and has played every year since.
* The last time Kenny Perry put together wins in back-to-back seasons was in 1994 and 1995. Perry won three events in 2008 and played on the U.S. Ryder Cup team.
* Playing on a sixth Major Medical Extension for a disk injury, David Berganio, Jr. has five events to earn $346,342 to earn Major Medical Extension status for the remainder of the 2009 season. Berganio, Jr. missed the cut at the Sony Open in Hawaii in his first start of the season, but followed that with T34 honors at last week’s Bob Hope Classic to earn $24,671.25. The FBR Open is his third of five events under the Major Medical Extension.
* David Berganio has played in 133 PGA Tour events since turning pro in 1993 and has earned $1,675,653 in that time. His last top-25 finish came in 2003, while his last top-10 was in 2002 when he lost in a playoff to Phil Mickelson at the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic. He played in five Tour events as an amateur from 1991-1993. Including the 2009 FBR Open, Berganio now has 66 made cuts to 58 missed cuts over his career. Since 2002, Berganio had missed 27 cuts while making 23.
* Phil Mickelson missed the cut (76-73-149) for the first time in a season opener since the 1989 Phoenix Open when he was playing as an amateur.
* In each of the last two years, Phil Mickelson has followed a missed cut with a win at his very next event. Mickelson missed only one of 21 cuts in 2008, but followed the missed cut at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am with a win the next week at the Northern Trust Open. In 2007, Mickelson missed the cut at the FBR Open and followed that up with a win the following week at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.

* The first-round scoring average of 71.356 was the highest since 2005 (74.145). Since 1987, there have only been six other years that had higher first-round averages.
