Marino wins first TourPlayers.com Ping-Pong Championship

Photo - Marino wins first TourPlayers.com Ping-Pong Championship PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. — The first TourPlayers.com Ping-Pong Championship was won on Friday night by its host, Steve Marino.  A total of 16 players vied for the title in an event broadcast live from the Tequesta (Fla.) home of Marino on TourPlayers.com in a joint venture with Vumanity Media Inc.

The ping-pong tournament, played after the second round of the Honda Classic, aired for two and a half hours on TourPlayers.com, a new website featuring PGA Tour Professionals, in association with Vumanity Media Inc. (www.vumanity.com), a cutting-edge technology that produces quality video content more quickly and efficiently than before. Marino is one of the tour players who are co-owners of TourPlayers.com (www.tourplayers.com).  PGA Tour players participating included Marino, Rickie Fowler, Dustin Johnson, Cameron Tringale, Will MacKenzie and Spencer Levin.  Levin was an observer and joined hosts Mike Ritz and Bob Bubka for an interview, promising to "work on my game and be ready for next year."

It looked like it might be an all PGA Tour final with Marino meeting Johnson, but Johnson was eliminated in the semi-finals.  Marino played Rob Luca in the final and won by two.  "You know I feel pretty good," Marino said after his 21-19 victory.  "It's a little solace for missing the cut this week that I hosted my own ping-pong tournament and took down the title.  So, I'm very, very happy right now.

"I'm looking forward to future ping-pong tournaments in this garage," he added.
