Quartet set the standard in California
Woods 6 back in return – Frys.com Open

Photo - Tiger Woods SAN MARTIN , Calif. - Brendan Steele, Briny Baird, Garrett Willis and Matt Bettencourt  were the pacesetters at the Frys.com Open as they finished with scores of 4 under par 67. They lead by one over six players including Troy Matteson, Rod Pampling and Matt Jones. In a group another shot back are Ernie Els, Scott Piercy and Kevin Na, who earned his first tour win last week in Las Vegas.

Steele, a rookie who already has a win this year, was feeling a bit fatigued as he made his last start of the year on the U.S. PGA Tour. He is also happy with his game after a top-20 finish last week.

"Yeah. I've been playing pretty solid," he said. "Four rounds in the 60s last week, so can't complain about that. Scores are always a little lower out there. But the game's been pretty good. I'm a little beat up from the year and a little tired, but I'm happy with the way I'm playing."

Of course, this week marked the first time former World No. 1 Tiger Woods returned to the golf course in two months. The results were less than spectacular.

He finished with a 2 over par 73 and was tied for 86th after a bad putting day.

"That's probably one of the worst putting rounds I've ever had," Woods said. "I can't putt the ball any worse than I did today.

"I just had a hard time hitting my stroke, and then I started altering it," he added. "And it was all over the place. I think I'm going to go put some mud tape on it and see if maybe a little bit more mass. It's always worked in the past. I think I'm going to have to do that here."

The good thing for Woods is he has another chance on Friday to right the ship.
