LOS ANGELES (AP) -Even with a big lead, Steve Stricker expected a tough day. Everyone else expected him to win.
Turns out both sides were right.
Stricker watched a six-shot lead slip to two after just five holes Sunday at Riviera before he steadied himself and closed with a 1-under 70 for a two-shot victory over Luke Donald in the Northern Trust Open.
His fourth PGA Tour victory in his last 15 starts moved him up to No. 2 in the world ranking.

LOS ANGELES (AP) -Dustin Johnson took a one-shot lead in the Northern Trust Open by chipping in for birdie from behind the 18th green Saturday morning for a 4-under 67 going into a weekend that figured to be just as soggy.
Johnson had to play two holes after the second round was suspended Friday by darkness.

LOS ANGELES (AP) -U.S. captain Corey Pavin announced four assistants for the Ryder Cup on Wednesday, including two players who have never competed in the matches against Europe.
Pavin said he had selected Tom Lehman, Davis Love III, Jeff Sluman and Paul Goydos.
About the only assistant not considered a surprise was Lehman, one of Pavin's closest friends. Lehman was the Ryder Cup captain in Ireland in 2006 and chose Pavin as one of his assistants.
